Solar farm, glimpsed through trees from the canal towpath |
.
. . and I noticed that sheep were grazing among the panels (but unfortunately
didn’t take a picture of them). That’s interesting I thought: making double use
of the land frees up space which could perhaps be filled with wildness.
And then I noticed that a biggish area of land outside the perimeter fence of the solar farm but within the old field boundary had been left to go wild.
Around the solar farm: an area of scrub and rough grass |
It
looked as if the wildness was accidental – through neglect rather than by
design – but none the worse for that. Better, perhaps. It was just my sort of
place.
And
then I noticed underneath a distant tree the figures of some deer.
Deer colonising the wilderness |
It
was a magical moment. It showed that as soon as there’s space, nature moves in.
It takes no time at all.
An
hour later we came back the same way and the deer were still there, comfortable
and unafraid.
An hour later, the deer are still there, in exactly the same place |
Christmas Day
Christmas
Day arrived cold and frosty. Perfect seasonal weather, with a glorious sunrise which
felt like an omen. I snapped a picture quickly through the landing window.

A
few minutes later I went outside and took another picture, but I think the one
from the landing is better.

Lovely photos, I know that solar panel "farming" is being run alongside sheep grazing, to make the land beneficial for more than one reason, it makes good sense, and probably a good incentive for the farming community. How your back is bearing up x
ReplyDeleteLovely to hear from you, Kate. That's good news that solar and sheep are together in other places. Back getting better, thank goodness. Did you see 'Countryfile' on TV last night. Some interesting tips about wildlife photography. Always enjoying your blog, even if not always commenting. Bx
DeleteHi B lovely post and photos - I will look out for the deer next time I walk by the canal. You also made me think about my own small good things - thank you. I immediately ordered a magnifying lens for my Iphone after seeing country file last night - I 'll let you know if it works! The light is coming back a few more minutes every day! Stay well Xx
ReplyDeleteLovely to hear from you, Trish. Yes, do let me know about the magnifying glass. Strangely, I was intrigued by the opposite - taking a photo through binoculars! xx
